The cultural children's story project allows students to explore Native American culture through a new lens by authoring and illustrating children's stories that teach children between the ages of four and six a lesson or tale unique to Native cultural traditions. The exemplar stories are laminated, bound, and given as gifts to an area elementary school with a primarily Native student body. Student authors read the stories to the children, and the books become part of the children's classroom library. The children learn cultural traditions from a young age and see their mentors (often Native students as well) as role models and writers. The authors learn the skills to develop their stories from conception to publication to presentation.Cultural Children's Story Video Lesson

This series of 5 high-quality, standards-aligned, inquiry-based lessons have been field-tested by the 4K students of Wequiock Children's Center for Environmental Science, their teacher and educational assistant. These lessons encourage students to use natural areas around their school as they improve their science and engineering skills as part of a unit on observing changes. Created as a part of a WISELearn OER Innovation project, Connect, Explore, and Engage: Using the Environment as the Context for Science Learning was a collaboration of the Wequiock Children's Center for Environmental Science and the Wisconsin Green Schools Network. One of the goals of the project was to create standards-aligned lessons that utilize the outdoor spaces of the school . These lessons were created to take place during late winter.

Biodiversity is a shortened form of the term "biological diversity." The entire spectrum of life forms and the many ecological processes support them. Wisconsin is blessed with abundant biodiversity. Located at the junction of the eastern deciduous forest, northern boreal forest and temperate grasslands, we have a wealth of species and natural communities.
Approximately 1,800 species of native plants and close to 700 species of native vertebrates have been identified in Wisconsin. In addition, there are thousands of species of non-vascular plants and invertebrates. These pages highlight the uncommon and rare species, natural communities, geological features and essential habitat areas throughout Wisconsin.

This project is a reflection to action tool based on the work of Muhammad (2020) in her book, "Cultivating Genius for Culturally and Historically Relevant Literacy." This tool contains a reflective chart that assesses the impact of each of Muhammad's pursuits including identity, skills, intelligence, criticality, and joy in relation to university, departmental, and course procedures and curriculum. Specific improvements are suggested to cultivate genius in each pursuit in both the Early Childhood STEM Math Methods and Early Childhood Science and Environment Methods courses. As a result of the reflective process, a notable course improvement discovered relates to culturally-responsive children's literature. This tool includes a plan of action to acquire new Math, STEM, Science, and Environment children's literature that is culturally-responsive, to add a unit topic related to questioning strategies that cultivate genius, and a modified STEM Literacy project. This tool includes a sample project revision as well as suggested culturally-responsive children's literature in each STEM and Environmental Education area.
This project was created as part of the 2023 Teacher Educator Network for Environmental Education Summit.

As state and local education agencies increasingly focus on serving educators with their data systems, a common challenge has arisen: identifying the critical knowledge and skills needed by teachers and administrators to use data effectively. Many states are creating data literacy and data use training programs for pre- and in-service educators without a common foundation on which to base the content. In addition, several state education agencies and educator preparation programs have begun communicating about how to create a stronger alignment between pre- and in-service training for educators regarding data use.

This was a fun project I did with my band to fill the few days between the Holiday Concert and the beginning of Christmas vacation. It engaged my students by using the pep band songs they already knew and creating a story line. It engaged the elementary students with the performance of our story. I introduced the narrator and characters in a story which reinforced their learning of English and storytelling. In a couple of days my students had come up with ideas of how to portray characters that came to search for a holiday spirit. We rehearsed the songs while our characters figured out their own blocking.
