As state and local education agencies increasingly focus on serving educators with their data systems, a common challenge has arisen: identifying the critical knowledge and skills needed by teachers and administrators to use data effectively. Many states are creating data literacy and data use training programs for pre- and in-service educators without a common foundation on which to base the content. In addition, several state education agencies and educator preparation programs have begun communicating about how to create a stronger alignment between pre- and in-service training for educators regarding data use.

Use your Pep Band to create stories that engage young children

This was a fun project I did with my band to fill the few days between the Holiday Concert and the beginning of Christmas vacation.  It engaged my students by using the pep band songs they already knew and creating a story line.  It engaged the elementary students with the performance of our story.  I introduced the narrator and characters in a story which reinforced their learning of English and storytelling.
In a couple of days my students had come up with ideas of how to portray characters that came to search for a holiday spirit.  We rehearsed the songs while our characters figured out their own blocking.

“Using Nature Journaling to Facilitate Early Childhood Cycles of Inquiry”
Conditional Remix & Share Permitted
CC BY-NC-SA
Rating
0.0 stars

This nature journaling unit is intended for use in an upper division early childhood education science and environment methods course; and will occur in three steps, likely during three consecutive class periods. The intention of this learning sequence is to prepare early childhood pre-service educators to implement nature journaling experiences in order to facilitate emergent cycles of inquiry that will extend theory build and wonder in young children. First the pre-service educators will learn about nature journaling, how to engage with the practice themselves, and how to facilitate nature journaling with young children. Then, through a series of nature journaling practice activities, the pre-service educators will engage in their own nature journaling practice as it connects to the broader early childhood science question of ecological perspective taking and participation with nature. Finally, they will explore how to facilitate and observe children’s nature journaling practice, and how to utilize the questions that emerge from this recurrent practice in cycles of inquiry planning.

The Champion Tree Program recognizes and celebrates the state’s largest trees. The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources began documenting these trees in 1941 with the help of the community. People around the state discovered these trees in the Northwoods, in neighbors’ yards and along city streets. The program has endured as a result of people such as yourself. We invite you to join us in honoring and preserving Wisconsin’s natural resources heritage.

Rating
0.0 stars

This unit is a Math Routine to use with a Literacy Unit about The Three Little Pigs. I included student work and projects. I created this slideshow to share with the students as we went through each routine. The routines revolve around the construction of houses. This was used in a first-grade classroom. The students persevered to solve the Lego brick problem although it may have been more difficult than first-grade standards.
