Students will be working collaboratively with others to categorize equations into having one, no, or infinite solutions. Students will then make generalizations about the characteristics of equations that have one, no, or infinite solutions. This lesson unit is also intended to help you assess how well students are able to: • Solve linear equations in one variable with rational number coefficients.• Collect like terms.• Expand expressions using the distributive property. It also aims to encourage discussion on some common misconceptions about solving equations.

This lesson unit is intended to help you assess how well students are able to solve quadratics in one variable. In particular, the lesson will help you identify and help students who have the following difficulties: Making sense of a real life situation and deciding on the math to apply to the problem.Solving quadratic equations by taking square roots, completing the square, using the quadratic formula, and factoring.Interpreting results in the context of a real life situation.

Per the authors/creators, students learn the meanings of new words by engaging in a wide array of reading. However, the chances of learning a new word from a single exposure in a naturally occurring context are slim. This lesson provides sixth, seventh- and eighth-grade students with the opportunity to practice using context clues that are purposefully manipulated. Context clues are then combined with semantic gradients, requiring students to both select and generate related words along the continuum. Students work in groups and are required to verbalize their thinking. Additionally, they apply their learning by creating context clues and semantic gradients of their own.

Having explored how Robert Hayden uses consonance, assonance, and alliteration to illustrate a complex relationship between a father and a son in "Those Winter Sundays," students engage in a variety of vocal activities and performance techniques based on word sounds. Students then prepare a recitation of the poem for small group performances and compare their interpretative choices as part of the reflection process.

How long will the fidget spinner spin? This 3 Act Task by Graham Fletcher begins with a short portion of a video with a fidget spinner in motion. First students make observations and estimates to begin determining how long the fidget spinner will be in motion. Students are then given the total number of spins and the average spins per second. Using division of a 4 digit dividend by a 1 digit divisor and conversion skills, students calculate the amount of time the spinner will spin.

Website Description: Students discover that states have their own governments and powers separate from the federal government. They learn what those powers are, how they’re different from the federal government’s powers, and that state governments also give power to smaller, local governments. Students critique a set of fictional state laws, create a story involving state powers, and look at some differences between state and local power. We recommend teaching our lesson The "Federal" in Federalism right before this lesson. (Please note: This lesson replaces our old "On the Level" lesson plan. The Venn diagram activity from On the Level can be found in The "Federal" in Federalism.)
Student Learning Objectives: Students will be able to… *Explain the source and nature of state and local governmental power. *Distinguish reserved powers from federal powers. *Identify types of powers that are held at the state or local level. *Examine the differences between statewide laws and local ordinances/laws. *Explain the duties of various local officials.

This Lesson Plan goes over how to find the Mean, Median, Mode, IQR, and Mean Absolute Deviation of a data set. We will go over some generic examples in the lesson and then do some practical application, as we find each of these from the samples taken to ensure consistent weight of the paper from BPM.

A teacher uses self-assessment as a formative practice within the classroom. Students self-assess their writing with a stop light system: green (confident with first draft), yellow (unsure and wants clarification), or red (needs support) based on a writing exemplar. Next, they partner with a student with an opposite color to provide feedback or obtain feedback. Finally students use the feedback to revise their writing.
