This blog was started in 2011 as a venue for book reviews and thematic booklists. Gradually, the focus began to shift to lesson ideas and managment tips for librarians and classroom teachers. According to Mrs. Readerpants,
"...there is a huge need for librarians to share ideas with one another. New librarians are especially "on their own" in their schools, and many new librarians look to websites like this one for ideas, direction, and a much-needed sense of community. I am honored to be a part of that community and encourage all librarians to reach out and help one another."
Areas users can explore include: New Releases, Reviews, Book Lists, Booktalks, Genre-Fication, Using Picture Books with Older Readers, Library Lessons and Printables, and Running the Library.

This is a video that demonstrates the steps of multiplying fractions. It includes both mixed number multiplication and regular fractions. The video is made by students and other school workers. The music is Drop It Like It's Hot by Snoop Dogg, so is very catchy and motivating. It is a song, with lyrics, that students remember. Once it gets in your head it will not get out.

The Mystery Cube activity is a great way to teach students about inquiry, the nature of science, and constructing/communicating evidence-based claims. The students are given a paper cube, and without touching or lifting it, they must use observations about what is visible on the other faces of the cube to reason about what is on the bottom. There are three cube activities (a simple, primer-to-the-task cube; a more complex cube; a create-your-own cube) that can be used separately, used subsequently, or adapted as needed to match the intended grade level.

The National Underground Railroad Freedom Center (NURFC) is a beacon of hope that sits in downtown Cincinnati just a few steps from the banks of the Ohio River, the great natural barrier that separated the slave states of the South from the free states of the North. Since opening in 2004, the NURFC has filled a substantial void in our nation’s cultural heritage. Rooted in the stories of the Underground Railroad, the NURFC illuminates the true meaning of inclusive freedom by presenting permanent and special exhibits that inspire, public programming that provoke dialogue and action, and educational resources that equip modern abolitionists. It's vision is to be the preeminent cultural learning center for inclusive freedom — locally, nationally and globally.

Next Generation Infrastructures

Infrastructures for energy, water, transport, information and communications services create the conditions for livability and economic development. They are the backbone of our society. Similar to our arteries and neural systems that sustain our human bodies, most people however take infrastructures for granted. That is, until they break down or service levels go down.

In many countries around the globe infrastructures are ageing. They require substantial investments to meet the challenges of increasing population, urbanization, resource scarcity, congestion, pollution, and so on. Infrastructures are vulnerable to extreme weather events, and therewith to climate change.
Technological innovations, such as new technologies to harvest renewable energy, are one part of the solution. The other part comes from infrastructure restructuring. Market design and regulation, for example, have a high impact on the functioning and performance of infrastructures.
