Students investigate the life cycles of engineered products and how they impact the environment. They use a basic life cycle assessment method that assigns fictional numerical values for different steps in the life cycle. Then they use their analyses to compare the impacts of their products to other products, and suggest ways to reduce environmental impact based on their analyses.

Everything starts with a project - a short-term undertaking that creates a unique good or service. Projects help businesses maintain flexibility so that they can take advantage of new opportunities quickly and effectively. Teach your students more about projects, why they’re important, and how businesses manage them effectively. LAP modules are comprehensive instructional packages that include all elements of a performance-oriented lesson plan. This LAP includes a student narrative that includes information about project management, a (So What?) discussion of why it's important to learn, and a short (Gray Zone) case addressing ethical issues. The instructor section features a comprehensive discussion guide, complete learning guide (short answer) and post-tests (multiple-choice) with descriptive keys, student activities, and more.

Between choosing wording for labels, selecting packaging materials, and monitoring product quality, product managers often face serious ethical dilemmas. In this LAP, students will examine several common ethical issues that product managers deal with on a daily basis – and gain an in-depth understanding of the importance of ethical behavior in product/service management. In the Gray Zone, students will consider the case of a product manager who is facing pressure to label a new product with “no sugar added,” despite the product’s naturally high sugar levels. LAP modules are comprehensive instructional packages that include all elements of a performance-oriented lesson plan. This LAP includes a student narrative that includes information about ethics in product/service management, a (So What?) discussion of why it's important to learn, and a short (Gray Zone) case addressing ethical issues. This is a template we use when design lessons and assessments for a specific target. You can make a copy and edit it to fit any target or standard you have. There are two proficiency scales, one for the student to reflect on where they are at and one for the teacher to score. There is also space provided for feedback. These proficiency scales have been extremely helpful when conferencing with students about their progress. They are also a great resource for documentation and evidence to support where a student is at in regards to a a target/standard.
