Students will be reinforcing and demonstrating their understanding of the steps in the accounting cycle for a service business by developing a unique project.  This group project encourages creativity and the use of technology.  Stucents will create a plan and timeline for completion.

AirNow is your one-stop source for air quality data. Our recently redesigned site highlights air quality in your local area first, while still providing air quality information at state, national, and world views. A new interactive map even lets you zoom out to get the big picture or drill down to see data for a single air quality monitor.

AirNow reports air quality using the official U.S. Air Quality Index (AQI), a color-coded index designed to communicate whether air quality is healthy or unhealthy for you. When you know the AQI in your area, you can take steps to protect your health.

AirNow is a partnership of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), National Park Service, NASA, Centers for Disease Control, and tribal, state, and local air quality agencies. Explore the conditions and circumstances of Alexander Hamilton’s youth and the strengths he carried with him into his adult life. He rose from being a poor boy in the Caribbean, to a key leader in the founding of the United States government.
As a culmination, students are encouraged to reflect on their own lives and think about how, like Hamilton, they might translate their childhood experiences into success later in life.

Students learn about linear programming (also called linear optimization) to solve engineering design problems. As they work through a word problem as a class, they learn about the ideas of constraints, feasibility and optimization related to graphing linear equalities. Then they apply this information to solve two practice engineering design problems related to optimizing materials and cost by graphing inequalities, determining coordinates and equations from their graphs, and solving their equations. It is suggested that students conduct the associated activity, Optimizing Pencils in a Tray, before this lesson, although either order is acceptable.

Students define and classify alloys as mixtures, while comparing and contrasting the properties of alloys to those of pure substances. Students learn that engineers investigate the structures and properties of alloys for biomedical and transportation applications. Pre- and post-assessment handouts are provided.

This website by the National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health teaches students about alternative health practices. The website breaks down alternative health practices into 4 broad categories - nutritional, psychological, physical, and other. Then, it provides specific examples of alternative health practices in each category. By clicking on the specific example, the website redirects you to a page that defines and describes that practice in more detail. This website is great because it provides diagrams; charts; embedded links to additional information; general alternative health practices; and alternative health practices specific to groups like military personnel, cancer patients, and cancer survivors. As an interactive activity, students can separate into small groups. Each member can research a specific alternative health practice like massage therapy, acupuncture, or meditation. After a brief time window like 10-15 minutes, the students can share their findings with the group in the form of a Prezi, Google Slides, or speech. The goal of this activity is for students to become familiar with alternative health practices, be able to list and discuss specific practices, and possibly use some of these practices in their lives.

This resource will be a growing resource for a new curriculum and way to teach High School Anatomy & Physiology class. It is called beyond the textbook because we are attempting to help the students interact with as many different careers and options in health care as possible. In a Health Careers class, the students mainly study the careers, but in this course, they will study the anatomy and physiology that is required behind each of those career pathways. They will use collaborative structures case studies, peer teaching, and role playing to enhance their learning.
