This area of financing provides many options for an exporter and in some cases desirable financing options for an importer. It is important to remember that all options carry risk and the greater the risk the higher the cost. When evaluating risk, the associated costs must be a factor in the cost equation. The financing tools that have been presented in other sections merge at this point into potential financing options.MSU Global has teamed with experts in the international finance field to create resources to help increase international skills in the business community. In this online, interactive module, students learn how enhanced Earth remote-sensing capabilities are used by dozens of satellites that are continuously collecting data from multiple vantage points. This allows scientists from different countries to transcend political and geographical boundaries by sharing data and ideas towards the common mission of caring for planet Earth. The module is part of an online course for grades 7-12 in satellite meteorology, which includes 10 interactive modules. The site also includes lesson plans developed by teachers and links to related resources. Each module is designed to serve as a stand-alone lesson, however, a sequential approach is recommended. Designed to challenge students through the end of 12th grade, middle school teachers and students may choose to skim or skip a few sections.

Moore's Law Forever?
Conditional Remix & Share Permitted
CC BY-NC-SA
Rating
0.0 stars

In 1965, Gordon Moore observed that the number of transistors on a silicon chip doubled every technology generation (12 months at that time, currently 18-24 months). He predicted that this trend would continue for a while. Forty years later, Moore's Law continues to hold. Since the number of transistors in a circuit is a measure of the circuit's computational power, the doubling of transistor counts compounded over a 40 year period has led to an enormous increase in the performance of electronic devices and a corresponding decrease in their cost per function. The result has shaped our modern world by making computers, personal computers, cell phones, portable music players, personal digital assistants, etc. pervasive. This talk is an overview of a technology that shaped the 20th Century and that may have a similarly profound impact on the 21st Century. I'll explain how engineers double the number of transistors per chip, the challenges they face as they strive to continue Moore's Law, and take a brief look at some new technologies that researchers are examining.

Semiconductor device technology has transformed our world by making possible supercomputers, personal computers, cell phones, ipods, and much more that we now take for granted. Moore's Law observes that the number of transistors (the basic building blocks of electronic systems) per electronic chip doubles each technology generation. This doubling of transistor density each technology generation has continued since Gordon Moore, one of the co-founders of Intel, made his observation in 1965. It has led to an exponential growth in the capability of electronic systems and an exponential decrease in their cost. The microelectronic technology of the 1960's has evolved into today's nanoelectronics technology. This talk gives a brief overview of the history of electronics, a look at where it stands today, and some thoughts about where electronics is heading.

Nanoscale Antenna Apertures

This presentation will discuss light concentration and enhancement in nanometer-scale ridge aperture antennas. Resent research, including numerical simulations and near field optical measurements has demonstrated that nanoscale ridge antenna apertures can concentrate light into nanometer domain. More importantly, these ridge antenna apertures also provide enhanced optical transmission several orders of magnitude higher than regularly shaped nano-apertures. We will discuss fundamental theories of ridge antenna apertures, finite-difference time-domain (FDTD) calculations for optimizing the design of these antenna apertures, and near field scanning optical microscope (NSOM) measurements of the near field intensity distribution of the light transmitted through these apertures. It is shown that the nanoscale antenna apertures can produce a concentrated light spot beyond the diffraction limit with enhanced transmission. Potential applications of these nanoscale aperture antennas include nano-lithography and nano-imaging.

OER Project Teaching Guide
Rating
0.0 stars

This teaching guide from the OER Project outlines their courses, PD, and other resources.

The OER Project is a coalition of educators and historians committed to boosting student engagement and achievement through transformational social studies programs. By empowering classroom teachers with better curricula, content, and a vibrant community, we deliver more compelling, impactful, and usable histories. “OER” stands for open educational resources. When you grab a free worksheet off Pinterest for your tenth graders, that’s an OER resource. We recognize the value of OER resources, but want to go beyond the typical content repository approach—we aim to improve OER by providing coherency, support, and community.

Currently, the OER Project offers two courses—Big History Project (BHP) and World History Project (WHP)—both of which are completely free, online, and adaptable to different standards and classroom needs. Unlike textbooks, lesson websites, and other commercial products, everything has been purposely built to truly empower teachers and leave traditional history courses in—sorry for the pun—the past. We also offer short, standalone courses for those who want to try the OER Project approach, but aren’t yet ready to take on a full history course. Our current standalone options include Project X, a course that uses data to explore historical trends to help make predictions about the future; Project Score, a course that uses writing tools and the use of Score, a free, online essay-scoring service to help support student writing; and Climate Project, an evidence-based overview of the global carbon problem that culminates in students developing a plan of action they can implement locally

This course involves the design, development, and deployment of interactive mapping tools distributed via the World Wide Web and using “open” (non-proprietary, community-developed) standards and software code. It will also prepare students to design, develop, and implement custom web mapping applications using open standards and open source software. On completion of the course, students will be able to build and deploy a complete web mapping solution including selecting the spatial data, the server and client software. Students will be able to determine which type of mapping server is required for their needs and to explain why choosing an open standard based solution is better than a proprietary solution. The course will cover a variety of open source software packages for web mapping and will provide pointers to commercial solutions where appropriate.
