This resource was created to help educators of students aged 3-8 plan a family engagement session/night. Included in this resource is a flyer that can be sent to your community. This flyer is fully editable and can be customized to your needs. The facilitation guide will help you with the steps you should take to plan, organize, and hold the family engagement session. In the facilitation guide, there is a resource that can be handed to parents either digitally or in a physical copy. As a gift to your participant, a game can also be sent home with them. We suggest that these games, one per grade level, be prepared as directed so that they are ready to be used immediately. This family engagement experience can be set up to meet your needs; however, to accommodate many participants, we have designed it so that participants move through a series of stations. Each station is based on a grade level. We understand that you may have parents only interested in the grade level their child is enrolled in, but we suggest that you encourage parents to visit all stations so that they can see the progression of mathematics from pre-kindergarten through second grade.

"The easyCBM system was developed by educational researchers at the University of Oregon in close collaboration with school district partners across the United States. It is designed to give teachers insight into which of their students may need additional instructional supports as well as to provide a means by which they can measure the effectiveness of their teaching. System reports provide information that supports evidence-based decision making, and the Interventions interface streamlines the process of keeping track of students' instructional program, a feature that is particularly helpful for student study team meetings and parent conferences. The full District system includes a variety of curriculum based measures in the content areas of early literacy in both English and Spanish as well as oral reading fluency, vocabulary, and reading comprehension. In addition, it offers mathematics measures with reach to both the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM) Focal Point Standards and the Common Core State Standards in Mathematics, with built-in read-aloud and Spanish translation accommodations. The Teacher Deluxe Edition offers the same features as the District version, but is optimized for individual teacher, rather than system-wide adoption. A truncated version, the Lite Edition, is available free of charge for individual teachers."

The unit includes lessons in which two sets of data are being compared and data sets are being analyzed for measures of central tendency (mean, median, mode). Learning objectives, materials, student questions, extensions, teacher reflections, and links to create graphs virtually are included.

This lesson explores elapsed time through the use of timelines. Students will use timelines to mark start times and end times of given activities, and will interpret the timelines to understand how to calculate elapsed time. With the exception of the Timeline Activity Sheet, you will want to make sure that each student has one copy of each activity sheet. Make multiple copies of the Timeline Activity Sheet so that each student can have at least 3 copies.

This task introduces the fundamental statistical ideas of using data summaries (statistics) from random samples to draw inferences (reasoned conclusions) about population characteristics (parameters). In the task built around an election poll scenario, the population is the entire seventh grade class, the unknown characteristic (parameter) of interest is the proportion of the class members voting for a specific candidate, and the sample summary (statistic) is the observed proportion of voters favoring the candidate in a random sample of class members.
