Positive Behaviors for Healthcare Professionals
Rating
0.0 stars

This professionalism guide by The American Board of Pediatrics helps students learn about positive behaviors in a healthcare setting. The website provides a detailed description of positive work behaviors and professionalism in a healthcare setting. As students review this section, they should create a list. It also provides some examples of negative work behaviors in a healthcare setting so students can distinguish between positive and negative behaviors. The website also provides 7 vignettes to use as an interactive activity. Students can be split into small groups and given one vignette, and then they can discuss what a positive, professional response would look like to each scenario. The goal of this activity is to prepare students to act professionally and positively in a healthcare job.

"I created this site to make it a little easier for parents, teachers and students to find resources, games, and have additional resources to support online learning without having to create a bunch of new accounts or remember a bunch of passwords. This is a database of links to free educational pre-K-12th grade games and research tools with no log ins or sign ups or memberships required. This site is aligned to Common Core Standards, teacher and parent needs and student interests.

I invite you to explore and play and to maybe learn something new."

"This site came about in early 2020 when schools around the country started to close, due to COVID 19. I saw online that there were a lot of resources that families could access, but felt that the choices were overwhelming to parents and kids who were looking for some fun and educational things to do online. I narrowed down the sources and put them onto a manageable site that is easy for kids and parents to use. The use of technology is encouraged in schools and at home in order to support student engagement. With technology, I hope to inspire the STEM leaders and innovators of tomorrow.

All of the links on this site are aligned with the Common Core Standards and are all age appropriate. With these links, all materials are free to use, without having to sign up or register for anything. I hope that you enjoy exploring these sites."

I used this task with my math intervention group of seventh graders that were shown to have a deficit in Geometric Shapes. Students worked in pairs to solve the tasks and then compared with the other groups when complete. Students critiqued the reasoning of others and looked for similarities and differences in how they solved the tasks. After each group had an opportunity to speak with a different group, we went through the two tasks together.

Procedures and Protocols Related to Bioterrorism Emergencies
Rating
0.0 stars

This CDC website is ideal for teaching students procedures and protocols related to bioterrorism emergencies. First, the CDC lists five specific bioterrorism agents. When you click on each agent, the website explains how health centers, communities, and the CDC are preparing for possible bioterrorism attacks. As an interactive activity, students can be split into groups of five. Each group member can use this website to research the protocols of one of the bioterrorism agents. Then, students can share their findings with the group. The goal of this exercise is for students to learn more about bioterrorism emergencies and the preparation that different health centers do for possible bioterrorism.

This task shows three equivalent expressions and requires that students understand the structure and purpose of each one. This is a critical aspect of Seeing Structure in Expressions.
The primary purpose of this task is to assess students' knowledge of certain aspects of the mathematics described in the High School domain A-SSE: Seeing Structure in Expressions. Specifically, standard A-SSE.3 reads A-SSE.3: Choose and produce an equivalent form of an expression to reveal and explain properties of the quantity represented by the expression. a. Factor a quadratic expression to reveal the zeros of the function it defines. b. Complete the square in a quadratic expression to reveal the maximum or minimum value of the function it defines.
The Standards avoid the term "simplify" as there isn't always an obvious simplest form. The emphasis instead is on, "purposeful transformation of expressions into equivalent forms that are suitable for the purpose at hand." This task shows three equivalent expressions and requires that students understand the structure and purpose of each one. This is a critical aspect of Seeing Structure in Expressions.
Mathematically this task:
• Prompts students to analyze three equivalent quadratic expressions • Allows students to focus on the structure of the expressions without focusing on the procedural skill of factoring or expanding the expressions • Gives a real-world context for students to interpret the properties of quadratic expressions • Requires students to look for and make use of structure (MP.7)
In the classroom: • Offers students and teachers an opportunity to see an assessment-type task with two response types • Allows teachers to target specific student misunderstandings for reteaching • With follow-up questions, teachers can prompt students to share their thinking about the concepts in this task

This is a GREAT activity where students organize into groups and then plan our Holiday Party. They work together, work out a budget and timeline, and then present their ideas to the class. Students love it & you could easily work off of a $0 budget and make them come up with funding/creative ideas.
