This is the outline for a third grade writing unit on writing opinion (persuasive) papers. The lessons and materials are linked to the outline, but they also uploaded in a PDF format as sperate lessons in WISELearn. 

This resource is a lesson plan focusing on teaching the 4 R's - Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, Rethink. This lesson aims to demonstrate how an understanding of these 4 R's can play an important role in conservation efforts. Also that there many different things everyone can do to incorporate the 4 R's into your life. This lesson plan includes the objectives, standards, teacher background information, time guide, material list, literacy books, vocabulary, directions, and resouces.

Students will learn about the 5 Languages of Love and the definitions of all of them.  They will then "guess" which one is their primary language.  After "guessing" they will take a self-assessment and find out what their primary love language is.  We will then discuss what they can do with this information.  

These handouts accompany the 5th Grade Rain Garden Design Challenge Lesson Plan. The handouts give criteria for identifying areas of erosion and non-point source pollution entering waterways on school property, slope and soil suitability criteria for situating the rain garden, and data collection procedures for phosphate testing. The handouts also include guidelines and criteria for the final poster presentation design and Claim-Evidence-Reasoning, as well as rubrics for scoring and guidelines for peer feedback.

This lesson engages 5th grade students in identifying areas of erosion and non-point source pollution entering waterways on school property, making a claim on the most suitable site to locate a rain garden by conducting field tests on slope and soil type, and testing
for the presence of phosphates in waterways on school forest property. Students then compete in a rain garden design challenge using their data to create a poster presentation, including a map and claim evidence reasoning, for the best rain garden design plan, scored using a rubric.

This resource is for teachers who want a lesson on environmental impacts on the climate due to humans for middle school, high school, and college grades. There are various activities, readings, and videos for each of the different schools.

Students will be reading and writing myths. They will follow the structure of short stories and eventually publish their work.

The 7th grade poetry unit gives an in depth approach to poetry involving the four strands within the core. I've included worksheets, rubrics, and answers keys where applicable. I have also used literature examples from the core.

This lesson plan includes 2 lesson plans for 2 classroom sessions with all 8th grade students. The purpose of this lesson is to have a discussion and help prepare students for the transition from 8th grade to 9th grade and ultimately create a high school schedule.This lesson would be considered best practice, is commonly used and believed to be of high quality. Another purpose of this lesson would be to answer any questions students may have about high school, classes, schedules, extra-curricular, sports, graduation requirements, credits, college classes, review the high school course description book and talk about anything and everything students want to talk about.Using student accounts in Xello also provide additional information on interests and scheduling as well as choosing high school classes that prepare students for college entrance. Discussion of transcripts, grades that will not change and the importance of learning how to self-motivate and self-direct their learning through high school. 

Students will be creating a variety of poetry as well as analyzing poetry. They will work with Language standards and take a performance assessment at the end of the unit.

In accordance with Genocide Awareness Month, Facing History offers nine classroom resources educators can utilize to help their students think critically about the specific historical and contemporary conditions under which genocides occurred to effectively unite head, heart, and conscience.

This resource is a multi-day lesson plan that guides students through the close reading process of an informational text. Using the 1941 FDR State of the Union address, components of informational text including: organization, context, and rhetoric are analyzed.
