I used The Hungry Catepillar lesson from this link.

https://www.illustrativemathematics.org/content-standards/tasks/1150

However I did an extension off this lesson using this resource to allow teachers to work on the skills of addition, the precise language of tens and some extra ones, and seeing groups of ten.

This activity is a great way to include Language Arts along with Mathematics. Using The Very Hungry Catepillar, we used based-ten blocks to place onto a ten frames. Each time the catepillar eats something, we add to the ten frame. At the end of the story, we look at how much the catepillar has eaten. However, I took this activity a step further to continue strengthening the use of addition. Students and I then had a variety of situations at the end of the story where the catepillar ate 4 more leaves. The students then add four more, either in a group of 4 or counting out 4 individual items. We then look again at using our language of, "I have a 3 groups of ten and 4 extra ones."

Challenges with this lesson is making sure the students have added a cube onto their ten frame for each item they ate. As well, students would have to also understand how to use a ten frame before the start of the lesson. As well, if you are working to be precise with the language of tens and extra ones, you want to nudge your students to use this language. You will want to model this multiple times.

This is a lesson plan used as an introductory activity to Barbara Kingsolver's novel, The Bean Trees.  The lesson has students read and discuss (both in small groups and as a whole class) personal stories from survivors of child abuse focusing on what makes those stories powerful and how the abuse affected the survivors and continues to affect them today.  Furthermore, this lesson has students individually write and then discuss as a class about some of the other issues that are touched on in Kingsolver's novel (immigration, names, refugees, and teen pregnancy).

From the task itself on the Webquest: "Now that our class has completed reading A Christmas Carol, by Charles Dickens, you are going to embark on a journey to ensure that Scrooge does not revert back to his miserly ways. In order to ensure this, you will work both individually and together as a team. Many of the tasks will be completed online, but some involve other skills. Follow these steps and you will help keep Scrooge from ever becoming a misanthrope again!"

These activities include: A Scavenger Hunt that provides links to various sites that enable to students to develop a deeper understanding of Victorian England as the setting of the text; a Holiday Menu (exploring cultural aspects of the holiday); Apology Letters written as Scrooge to various characters); Symbolic Tokens (to enable Scrooge to remember his lessons); all compiled as a group 'gift', which I thought was a wonderful symbol of just exactly what learning is :)

This resource could be used an a precurser for a lesson on comparing areas of circles and squares. There is guess and check involved, as well as digging deeper to find the correct answer. Students could do part of this on their own device, using GeoGebra to help with graphing the equations. If students do not have access to devices, then the teacher can use it as a class discussion.

This includes questions that can be posed to students, as well as visuals to make the entire task make sense to students. Answer is included.
