WUHS Biology Packets - Traits & Genes Unit
Unrestricted Use

Rating
0.0 stars

Using three-dimensional scaffolds, these materials address the following topics:  - Relationships between DNA, proteins, and traits.- How mitosis enables each cell to receive a copy of DNA.- How gametes like sperm and eggs are formed and transmit parents' genes to offspring.  - Predicting traits based on parents' genotypes and phenotypes using Punnett squares.  Each packet is broken into five parts - data dive, core ideas, investigations, asssessments, and life connections. Formative assessments and checkpoints are embedded throughout each packet. The final packet prepares students for a summative assessment, with a provided practice assessment.Implementation instructions are embedded for each component of each packet. PDFs are included as attachments (in case the file formats are altered by this system).

Scientific research and design is traditionally made to be published in books or magazines by use of text and images. The arrival of digital media and internet changed this dramatically and allowed new possibilities and far better accessibility of this work. Be this as it may, it is still paramount that the accuracy and completeness of published scientific work is maintained. This course will focus on this integrated concept, the learning of how to successfully make and publish your own website. In 6 lectures the several aspects of traditional scientific research will be treated by using the contemporary media. The course has the following study goals, that correspond with the given assignments and lectures: publishing own study and design work; making your work retrievable for others by use of key words; making use of digital media to describe own work; describing and evaluating of own work; making a bibliography and iconography; intrepretenting an image as a scientific document;describing in key words; compare images scientifically; deducting design types from image comparison; deducting design concepts from image comparison; deducting design models from image comparison; deducting design programs from image comparison; integrating different design concepts and becoming acquainted with research methods; defining an object of research, problem field, target field, design tools, own competence and context of research; formulating a site, context factors, motivation, design program, contribution, intended results and planning; justifying, referring and concluding of own work; giving and receiving professional critique.

In this online, interactive module, students will learn how to interpret weather patterns from satellite images, predict storm paths and forecast the weather for their area. The module is part of an online course for grades 7-12 in satellite meteorology, which includes 10 interactive modules. The site also includes lesson plans developed by teachers and links to related resources. Each module is designed to serve as a stand-alone lesson, however, a sequential approach is recommended. Designed to challenge students through the end of 12th grade, middle school teachers and students may choose to skim or skip a few sections.

Why is Nanotechnology Multidisciplinary? A perspective of one EE
Conditional Remix & Share Permitted

The field of nano-science and nano-technology covers a broad area of expertise. Classical fields of Physics, Chemistry, Material Science, Electrical/Mechanical/Chemical Engineering all are involved in the "new" field f nano. Research and development in that area is by its very nature multi-disciplinary, since I bridge a large length scale from atoms to systems and timescales from femto seconds to eternity. This presentation will give a personal perspective of an electrical engineer in the area of nanoelectronics. Based on a short introduction to nanoelectronics the needs and requirements of a multi-disciplinary team are discussed. Different length-scales as well as the trend of device size shrinking are explained. Two resulting multidisciplinary large-scale modeling and simulation efforts are presented. 1) the creation of the first nanoelectronic CAD tool NEMO at Texas Instruments, and 2) the creation and operation of the community simulation web site nanoHUB.org by the Network for Computational Nanotechnology (NCN).
