“Give me the Goods on Grapes” is an interdisciplinary unit of study for second and third grade students at LEAP Elementary School. Spanning several weeks, the unit addresses Wisconsin Standards for Environmental Literacy and Sustainability, NGSS, CCSS in Math and Literacy, as well as National Agricultural Literacy Outcomes. In this unit, students will learn about growing conditions required for Concord grapes, processing of grapes for food products, packaging design, and advertising. In addition, students learn measurement and other kitchen skills as they make grape jelly with a few simple ingredients.

This lesson provides teachers with support for using text-dependent questions and Common Core literacy strategies to help students derive big ideas and key understandings while developing vocabulary using the biographic text, Gloria Estefan. Along with her worldwide musical fame, Gloria Estefan also experienced tragedy, but continued to help others in unfortunate situations. Gloriaĺĺs success has allowed her to receive multiple honors and awards for her selfless work leading to her being referred to as "a star with a heart."

ŕThe Go-Around DollarĚŇ is a selection that combines two genres: realistic fiction and expository text. It provides an entertaining look at the journey of a dollar as it passes through the hands of various characters.

Through a study of the Central Sand Plains region of Wisconsin, students will participate in learning experiences both in the classroom and outdoors, so that they can recognize and identify natural divisions and forest types within this region. Students will learn how the conditions essential for a native forest community can help us make decisions about what foods grow best in our region. They will write a research piece to compare and contrast the life cycles and structures of two plants, one forest and one garden plant) we have studied.

In this story, Jangmi moves from her home in Korea to a new home in the United States. At first she is sad about leaving behind her friends and Korean customs and traditions, but once she arrives in America she begins to adjust. She becomes hopeful that someday America could feel like home, too.

Google Apps 101 curriculum focuses on exposing students to the Chrome OS (using Chromebooks) and proper use of Google Drive, Docs, Sheets, Slides, and Forms with business education appropriate supporting activities for students. This 21 day curriculum provides all related content and instruction for teachers to confidently teach the lessons.

Agriculture/environmental science unit for high school students focuses on the make-up of soil, the critters that live in it, and how farmers help to protect the soil through different management practices. The five-lesson unit continues with the physiology of plants and different types of both typical and specialty crops grown in Wisconsin. Plants were also grown in the classroom for a semester-long project with a hydroponic system.

This lesson plan is designed for middle school health, biology, or life science classes and introduces human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection and (acquired immune deficiency syndrome (AIDS) as a public health problem, including its modes of transmission, treatment, and prevention. Students should have covered lessons in human anatomy and physiology — specifically, organ systems, blood circulation, and immunity as a prerequisite for this lesson. This lesson provides teachers with support for using text-dependent questions and Common Core literacy strategies to help students derive big ideas and key understandings while developing vocabulary using the text "Happy Birthday Dr. King". When ten-year old Jamalĺĺs grandfather hears that the boy is in trouble for fighting to sit in the back of the bus, he tells Jamal about Rosa Parks, Martin Luther King, Jr., and the civil rights movement. Jamal responds with an idea for a skit for his schoolĺĺs King Day assembly.

This lesson is intended to help students realize that they can learn a lot about chickens—and animals in general—through close observation. They also should come to understand that it is important to learn about the special needs of eggs/chicks in order to take care of them, whether on a farm or in a classroom hatching project. This lesson can be used as an orientation for students before doing a chicken-hatching unit in class. A fantastic heat wave hits a Kansas farm, roasting the geese, popping the corn in the fields, and causing other distressing events. The farm girl tries a few clever ways to get rid of it, and finally succeeds when she plants iceberg lettuce.

Angel Arrellano, a nine-year-old girl from Fresno, CA. spearheaded a campaign to raise money to be donated to the local zoo. Her enthusiasm and altruism generated an overwhelming response from the Fresno community and beyond, which allowed for much needed upkeep and improvements for the zoo and its animals.

Students read a work of realistic fiction about bullying and gain understanding through writing, Readers Theatre, and discussion.

How can we Design Cattle to Better Meet Human Needs?

In this high school Storyline unit on genetics and heredity, students are introduced to ‘SuperCows’. As they explore the vast variety of cattle breeds, students discover that cattle are specialized for different purposes and while similar, the ‘SuperCows’ are clearly unique. Students wonder what caused this diversity and specificity which leads to investigations about the role of inheritance, DNA and proteins.

This is the beginning of a high school level unit plan applying Dr. Gholdy Muhammad's five pillars of culturally and linguistically responsive teaching to an inquiry into solar energy.  

Students research the items listed in the song ŕWe Didn't Start the FireĚŇ by Billy Joel, noting their historical relevance, and then document their findings using an online chart.

This lesson features the history of political polling in the United States going back to the 19th century and the development and use of polling since then.
