On January 1, 2014, The Frank Juarez Gallery and Greymatter Gallery launched the 365 Artists 365 Days Project to the world.

What started as a way to spotlight contemporary artists daily from across the country blossomed into getting the attention of artists from across the globe such as Germany, Slovenia, Australia, Russia, London, Israel and the United Kingdom.

What began as a one-year project rapidly grew into two-years of highlighting artists from across the globe. It was great to see the enthusiasm of artists through sharing our posts especially their own. Although this project is has come to a close, the plan is to keep the site up & running. This project is too important to take offline.

Lisa Krohn, Director of Teaching and Learning, challenged teachers at Johnson Creek Elementary School to rethink the traditional format of student learning and assessment and, focus on how to create  successful learners. Students are now grouped by academic readiness instead of age. Teachers transitioned from being grade level teachers (e.g. 3rd grade teacher) to “Focus Area Advisors” specializing in math or literacy. The workshop model allows students to be active learners engaging in formative assessment practices including conferring, journaling, and computer adaptive programs to name a few.  Read more about these practices in the module.

3D Modeling and Virtual Reality

The Geospatial Revolution is going 3D. Immersive technologies such as Oculus Rift, Samsung GearVR, HTC Vive, are revolutionizing how places and data are viewed and analyzed. Instead of interacting with data on a 2D desktop screen, researchers and decision makers can immerse themselves in virtual environments where geospatial data are represented in intuitive, immersive, and flexible ways. VR and 3D modeling are going hand in hand; with the ready availability of massive amounts of environmental data (e.g., LiDAR) and efficient 3D modeling technologies (e.g., SketchUp, CityEngine), realistic immersive scenarios are easier to create than ever before. We are witnessing a paradigm shift which enables new methods of environmental decision making from urban planning to climate change. The combination of iVR and automated 3D modeling enables models of real-world places to be integrated within data visualization workbenches. This course will provide students with an overview of current developments, details different workflows that are available, and provides hands-on experiences with 3D modeling and VR technologies.
