This subject is aimed at students with little or no programming experience. It aims to provide students with an understanding of the role computation can play in solving problems. It also aims to help students, regardless of their major, to feel justifiably confident of their ability to write small programs that allow them to accomplish useful goals. The class will use the Python€ž¢ programming language.

This activity emphasizes identifying which type(s) of insurance are best used in which situations. It starts by showing a couple All State "Mayhem" commericals and having students identify which types of insurance that peril would need. From there, students are split into groups of 3-4 to create their own videos with assigned insurance types.

My famous line is always: My #1 requirement is that making your insurance videos does not require you to use your insurance (aka...nobody get injured or actually wreck anything!)

The assessment served as a final paper for a Principles of Business course. The process covers much of what is in a typical introductory course, but allows students to use their own ideas for a small business that could be started with a small amount of capital.

Photosynthesis & Cellular Respiration Introducteion

This is a combination of a worksheet and interactive activity for students to either be introduced to photosynthesis and cellular respiration, or it can be a review activity.  Students take 9 pieces of paper (for which they write the different parts of the chemical equation of photosynthesis/cellular respiration) to construct the equations for both processes.  This is to help them see that the processes are the "opposite" of each other.  While following along on the worksheet, students manipulate the pieces of paper according to the instructions and then answer questions on the worksheet.

Product Labeling and Branding - Giggle Juice

Students will create a label for a bottled beverage. The target market for the beverage is children ages 4-10, both boys and girls, and is available throughout the United States. All students are required to call the juice "Giggle Juice", which makes it fun to see how they can spin the idea. Students will design the branding, and include it on the descriptive label. Typically, I give each student a different drink with a label that can be peeled off so we can analyze the label first, and then the students use that bottle to create the label for their "Giggle Juice"

Six Thinking Hats Final Thoughts
Rating
0.0 stars

As a class, read the book Six Thinking Hats by Edward DeBono. This book provides a framework to help people think clearly and thoroughly by directing their thinking attention in one direction at a time--white hat facts, green hat creativity, yellow hat benefits, black cautions, red hat feelings, and blue hat process.
Six Thinking Hats is a powerful book that facilitates critical thinking, collaboration, communication, and creativity. It allows each person's unique point of view to be included and considered.
This activity will test students on their knowledge of what was learned through reading and discussion.
This can be used as final assessment after reading the book.
