State vs. Gurnoe
Conditional Remix & Share Permitted
CC BY-NC-SA
Rating
0.0 stars

This text set includes a variety of multimodal resources designed to help learners understand treaty rights as they apply to the state of Wisconsin, giving special emphasis to the court cases of LCO v. Voight and State v. Gurnoe.  Indian tribes were independent, sovereign nations, before the arrival of Europeans in North America. Despite ceding their lands in the northern part of Wisconsin to the U.S. government, Chippewa tribes reserved the right to hunt, fish, and gather within the Ceded Territory. In the 1980’s, these court cases affirmed those rights. The year 2024 celebrates 50 years of the court decision.

90% of proposed bills die in committee. What happens in there??

Today's episode consists of two parts. First, the Schoolhouse Rock definition of congressional committees (what they do and why we have them) and second, an exploration of money, power, lobbying, and a secret point system for deciding who gets to be on one. This episode features the voices of Dan Cassino, Professor of Political Science at Farleigh Dickinson University and Leah Rosenstiel, Assistant Professor of Political Science at Vanderbilt University.

What's The Difference Between The House & The Senate? — Civics 101: A Podcast
Unrestricted Use

0.0 stars

The House and the Senate have mostly the same powers: they both propose and vote on bills that may become law. So why does the House have 435 members, and the Senate have 100? Why does legislation have to pass through both sides, and what kinds of power do each have individually? And finally: what role do you, as a voter, play in ensuring that Congress, and your Congressional delegation, is working in your best interests?

This episode features the opinions of former staffers from both chambers, Andrew Wilson and Justin LeBlanc, former member of the CA assembly, Cheryl Cook-Kallio, CNN political analyst, Bakari Sellers, and the inimitable political science professor from Farleigh Dickinson, Dan Cassino.

Written Communication for Healthcare Documents
Rating
0.0 stars

This independent training module by the Health Workforce Initiative teaches written communication for producing professional quality healthcare documents. After explaining the importance of written communication in healthcare, the module provides two main activities. I would recommend just the first activity as that aligns with the standard, and the second one does not. For the first activity, students will receive a “Discharge Instructions” document, and the students will rewrite this document using professional words that a patient without a healthcare background would understand. The goals of this activity are for students to practice professional writing for healthcare documents, identify terminology they should use to communicate with patients in healthcare documents, and practice some English Language Arts skills.
