We have many guaranteed CTE experiences/events for Altoona High School. However, we have never attempted to formally connect them back to the classroom. This year we intentionally created reflection surveys for students to complete, shortly after each event.
An educator decribes how she goes about developing meaningful relationships with her learners and how doing so builds a Shared Commitment to Success.
Students will discuss what study skills they already have for school success, and then focus specifically on study skills. Students will be able to identify different study skills/study behaviors and why they are important. Students will be able to identify how their behaviors affect their success in school.

CESA #1 EL OER Project
This activity is based on an activity from NASA's Solar Math. This activity has students analyzing sunspot cycle data. Students find patterns within the data to explore sunspot cycles.
Students will learn about Indigenous music artist Supaman and create their own loop song using Soundtrap.
At this stage of the "Lost in the Amazon" (hypothetical) adventure, students determine what supplies they will take with them to survive their trip through the Amazon. They use estimation and basic math skills to determine how much they can carry and what they can use to survive in the jungle environment as they travel on to their destination.
This is an example lesson plan with materials about the China's enviornmental issues for educators to use for creating their lesson. This lesson plan has multiple activities, readings, and pictures about various enviornmental issues that are occuring in Chhina in current times.
This is a 3 part lesson plan about the fishing industry and ocean populations. Students will first model through a simulation how fishing affects ocean animal populations. Then students will create and design solutions to the issue of overfishing. Then students will learn about how to support sustainability with the fishing industry and how to find businesses that practice sustainable fishing practices. This lesson is connected to the science and engineering practices and next generation science standards.

In this technical education lesson, students should be able to determine and use the correct size drill and tap to make a threaded internal thread.
Overview: This simulation game has students follow a bill through the three branches of government. It begins with the Executive Branch creating an agenda and then proposing a bill based on that agenda. The bill then goes to the Legislative Branch where hearings are held, deliberation about the bill occurs, and then a vote occurs. If passed, the Bill goes back to the Executive Branch for review. Finally, the Judicial Branch will determine if the law is constitutional.
Instructor Notes: Teachers can assign this content to their students through their iCivics account and then Clicking the Assign button on this activity. Teachers will then have the option to add a Class into iCivics OR Sync a roster from Google Classroom. This will allow teachers to see student's responses. There are also Downloadable Resources available to support this learning activity.
In this game, students will play a voting simulation where they learn the importance of getting to know the candidates, their qualifications, experience, and what they stand for. The students will also be able to identify the issues that are most important to them and then evaluate the candidates on their stance on these issues. Multiple information sources are used to inform students about elections and candidates to make this a realistic simulation.

The 11 minute presentation focuses on an introduction to energy and the environment, energy saving tips, how to use the Energy Star home energy yardstick, and homework ideas.
Students explore the legal and ethical dimensions of respecting creative work. First, they learn a basic foundation of legal principles and vocabulary related to copyright. They understand how such factors as the rules of copyright law, the values and intent of the original creator, and the audience and purpose should affect their decisions about using the creative work of others. Using the Mad Men Student Handout, students then apply these principles to a simulation activity in which they act as advertising executives who have to choose a photo for an ad campaign.
Picture book biographies can provide young readers with a great deal of information. Yet without a focus for reading, students often pay attention to interesting details and tidbits—what's been called the "terrific specifics"—rather than the big ideas in history. As they read and respond to picture book biographies, students will see fundamental differences between the past and the present and witness the impact some people had on the times in which they lived.

This unit focuses on the geography of South America. The unit incorporates technology by using resources like Google Earth and the CIA World Factbook website. The unit includes links to 5 individual lessons. All lessons include links to necessary materials. Everything for the lesson is created on the Google Platform (docs, slides) and can be easily adapted to Regions other than South America.
