In the wake of recent acts of gun violence in America, both citizens and politicians continue the debate over gun control in the United States. Legislation addressing issues like background checks, concealed carry permits and bump stocks have been suggested to address this issue. This deliberation will allow students to explore the roots of gun control in the United States while also exploring varying viewpoints on how to address the problem of gun violence in the future.

Use this module to help students learn about being and engaged citizen. Evaluate the obligations citizens have to obey laws, pay taxes, defend the nation, and service on juries. Experience the responsibilities of citizens at the local, state, or federal levels. Conduct a service project to further the public good. This teaching module comes with lesson plans, readings, student guides and handouts, practice, games, a review, a gallery walk, and an opportunity for student simulation/engagement.

By the end of grade 2, students have learned all of the sound spelling correspondences in the English language and are able to decode written material they encounter. Democracy in America is a unique 15-part course for high school teachers to provide a deeper understanding of the principles and workings of American democracy. DNA Interactive is a great website with interactive lessons about genetics, biotechnology and DNA. Created by the DNA Learning Center, the website allows students to learn the basics of DNA and genetic manipulation through interactive modules, articles and mini-games. Additionally, there are teacher lessons, activities and answer keys available on the website that can be modified to fit your curriculum.

During the 2021-2022 school year, teachers from Spring Valley and Ellsworth reviewed Social Studies Instructional Materials using a modified EQuIP rubric from Student Achievement Partners. The ELA EQuIP rubric was aligned to the Wisconsin Social Studies Standards, including the Five Shifts of the 2018 version of the Wisconsin Social Studies Standards. Teachers in this project selected high-leverage resources and used the rubric to evaluate them according to indicators of quality. In each section of this WISELearn Project, the instructional material is listed and the review is provided. Two rubric templates are also provided for Social Studies teachers and leaders to use locally.
