Welcome to Our Mississippi: Educational Activities about the Upper Mississippi River
Rating
0.0 stars

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is pleased to present this balanced, comprehensive guidebook to help teachers inform future decision-makers about this important natural resource.
Our Mississippi has been years in the making. In 1986, Congress designated the Upper Mississippi River System as
both a nationally significant ecosystem and a nationally significant navigation system. Since then, the Corps has worked with multiple groups and agencies to improve the economic and environmental sustainability of the river.
This guidebook is a result of several different programs and partnerships that included other federal agencies, five states, and a wide variety of environmental, conservation, navigation, and industry groups to strike that ever-crucial balance of human and wildlife interests.

The Welding Fabrication & Robotics Associate Degree program prepares learners to program and operate CNC cutting and forming equipment, as well as robotic welders, and develops the skills needed to work in an advanced metal manufacturing environment. Learners also expand their print reading skills through fabrication layout, fixturing, and precision measurement. Welding metallurgy and machine shop principles are also studied. Critical thinking skills are built through problem-solving activities that foster teamwork, positive attitudes, and an understanding of global competition.

Wisconsin First Nations - The Ways
Rating
0.0 stars

The Ways is a series of stories from Native communities around the central Great Lakes. This online educational resource explores connections between traditional ways and those of today. The engaging series features tribal communities of Wisconsin, Minnesota, and the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. An interactive map shows story locations and compares treaty lands, reservations, and Native population around the central Great Lakes. The Ways supports educators in meeting the requirements of Wisconsin Act 31, seeking to expand and challenge current understanding of Native identity and communities.

Written Communication for Healthcare Documents
Rating
0.0 stars

This independent training module by the Health Workforce Initiative teaches written communication for producing professional quality healthcare documents. After explaining the importance of written communication in healthcare, the module provides two main activities. I would recommend just the first activity as that aligns with the standard, and the second one does not. For the first activity, students will receive a “Discharge Instructions” document, and the students will rewrite this document using professional words that a patient without a healthcare background would understand. The goals of this activity are for students to practice professional writing for healthcare documents, identify terminology they should use to communicate with patients in healthcare documents, and practice some English Language Arts skills.

English Description:
Module 2 builds on students' previous work with units and with functions from Algebra I, and with trigonometric ratios and circles from high school Geometry. The heart of the module is the study of precise definitions of sine and cosine (as well as tangent and the co-functions) using transformational geometry from high school Geometry. This precision leads to a discussion of a mathematically natural unit of rotational measure, a radian, and students begin to build fluency with the values of the trigonometric functions in terms of radians. Students graph sinusoidal and other trigonometric functions, and use the graphs to help in modeling and discovering properties of trigonometric functions. The study of the properties culminates in the proof of the Pythagorean identity and other trigonometric identities.

English Description:
In this module, students reconnect with and deepen their understanding of statistics and probability concepts first introduced in Grades 6, 7, and 8. Students develop a set of tools for understanding and interpreting variability in data, and begin to make more informed decisions from data. They work with data distributions of various shapes, centers, and spreads. Students build on their experience with bivariate quantitative data from Grade 8. This module sets the stage for more extensive work with sampling and inference in later grades.
