Rating
0.0 stars

This inquiry focuses on examining a painting from a Holocaust survivor, a quote from a survivor, and an excerpt from an interview from a liberator to explore how art can express the pain of the Holocaust and how using a combination of first-hand sources can provide a better understanding of specific events of the Holocaust. The questions, tasks, and sources in this inquiry asks student to examine one piece of art using visual thinking strategies then use their observations on the painting in combination with a survivor quote and a liberator interview to construct a claim that using a combination of sources provides a better/more comprehensive understanding of the final days of the Holocaust and liberation.

"The Right Question Institute’s “Why Vote?” Tool is used to foster a strong sense of urgency to vote. Voting is framed as a self-advocacy role students can and will want to play. Whether students can or cannot yet vote, they will:

Understand the connection between specific public services they rely on or issues they care about and the role of elected officials
Name for themselves the importance of voting
Ask questions using the Question Formulation Technique (QFT)
Explore ways (in addition to voting) that people can take action and advocate for public services they rely on or issues they care about
This lesson plan is designed to bring elements of the ‘Why Vote’ Tool into the classroom and can be used in remote, hybrid, or fully in person settings."

A description of the indicators of health in each of these areas is provided, along with tips on how to reach optimal wellness. The website is very clear and informative to educate students regarding dimensions of health, how to recognize intellectual/emotional/social/physical health, and how to achieve wellness. As a supplemental activity to check for understanding, teachers can distribute the worksheet quiz linked in WISELearn. The worksheet provides 8 scenarios, and students must identify if the scenario describes physical, emotional, social, or intellectual indicators of health. The student must also identify if the patient is in good or poor health in that dimension. An answer key is provided on WISELearn.

The Intelligent Troglodyte's Guide to Plato's Republic

The Republic of Plato is one of the classic gateway texts into the study and practice of philosophy, and it is just the sort of book that has been able to arrest and redirect lives. How it has been able to do this, and whether or not it will be able to do this in your own case, is something you can only discover for yourself. The present guidebook aims to help a person get fairly deep, fairly quickly, into the project. It divides the dialogue into 96 sections and provides commentary on each section as well as questions for reflection and exploration. It is organized with a table of contents and is stitched together with a system of navigating bookmarks. Links to external sites such as the Perseus Classical Library are used throughout. This book is suitable for college courses or independent study.

Legal Behavior Versus Ethical Behavior
Rating
0.0 stars

This website is perfect for teaching the difference between legal and ethical behaviors. First, the website provides a brief description about the difference between legal and ethical behaviors. The rest of the website provides interactive activities for students to become familiar with the content. I would recommend just the two exercises titled “the difference” and “legal or ethical” since those are most related to our topic. Students can complete these exercises individually, and then as a collaborative activity, students can discuss their answers with a partner. The goal of this activity is for students to be able to distinguish between legal behavior and ethical behavior, provide examples of the two, and explain the differences.

This website by Maryville University teaches life stages throughout development. The website provides details about the 8 stages of human development through text and a diagram. As an interactive activity, students should make a chart to organize the 8 stages of development. In the chart, students should include the name of the stage, how people act during that stage, and some drawings and captions to help with memory. The goal of this activity is for students to be able to explain what each stage of development looks like and how people act during that stage.

This Mayo Clinic website lists 45 medical professions for students to explore. By clicking on each profession, students can watch a video highlighting the responsibilities and importance of that job or look at a picture illustrating the job in action. Students can also read the job description, learn about the work environment and career outlook, and delve into higher education requirements. This medical career exploration improves students’ knowledge of career options and encourages students to set educational goals. This goal can be measured by the accompanying worksheet linked in WISELearn. Students will identify and explain three medical careers of interest. Then they will organize all 45 medical professions into categories based on education length and career pathway.

While the United States had officially guaranteed Native American rights and recognized the sovereignty of Native American nations through several legally binding treaties since the eighteenth century, the government repeatedly violated these treaties, opening land that was reserved for Indian nations to settlers, speculators, and developers. Native Americans’ right to a sovereign existence included maintaining traditional relationships to the lands and waters that Native peoples had historically used. But 200 years of treaty violations, land theft, and forced assimilation by the federal government threatened the existence of many Indian nations. In their protests to the federal government from 1968 to 1978, Native American activists demanded that the federal government honor its treaty obligations so that tribes could restore their traditional relationships to the land, an effort that continues today. The National Park Service, as a steward of many Indigenous lands, played a significant role in this history that will continue into the future.

This career-connected learning document houses two resource guides for both teachers and students at Oconomowoc High School. Each resource guide is modeled after the DPI's Academic & Career Planning resource: Know, Explore, Plan & Go. While exploring our school's current status in regards to career-connected learning, we discovered a need for an accessible, centralized resource for current and future educators. After collecting student feedback, we also discovered that students have a need for an accessible, centralized resource guide, as well. This document is a living document, and as career-connected learning evolves and expands at Oconomowoc High Scholl, our goal is that our resource guides not only helps make that possible, but evolves as well. These documents will be housed in Class Link, in Xello, and under staff and student bookmarks on our school's intranet.

As part of the Worcester State University OER initiative in Spring 2017, Dr. Elizabeth Osborne created and translated course materials for her SP 322, Advanced Spanish Composition II, course. Materials have been divided into peer review (revisión por pares) handouts, close reading activities (actividades de lectura detallada) and other miscellaneous materials. The materials included here are by no means exhaustive, but they serve as a starting point to making education affordable and to filling the gap in Spanish-language OER for upper division courses.
