This ‘Tournament of Presidents’ activity gives students an opportunity to evaluate the presidents using a "bracket style" competition. Students will examine individual leadership characteristics that are key to the success of the chief executive. Students will utilize C-SPAN Presidential resources with special emphasis on the C-SPAN's 2021 Historians Survey of President Leadership.

Students participate in a puzzle activity to identify leadership characteristics that Abraham Lincoln possessed. They review the changes in the redesigned $5 note and consider how LincolnŐs leadership characteristics contribute to the fact that he is pictured on the $5 note. Students look at a timeline of LincolnŐs life and identify significant events in his road to the White House. They play a game to review content learned in the lesson.

In the article it talks about leadership in the healthcare field and how leaders can work to resolve conflict in the work place. For an activity, have your students read the article and identify the five ways to defuse a conflict in the healthcare workplace. After their reading, have them them form small groups and have each member of the group share one of the 5 strategies and an example of how they would use it. The key takeaway is for the students to understand the importance of strong leadership and be able to think critically about what they would do if they were in a leadership position.
