This inquiry embeds an Academic and Career Planning concept into historical inquiry, allowing students to make connections between historic accident analysis and the type of accident chain analysis a business might do today. By investigating the compelling question “Can the Accident Chain be disrupted?” students evaluate secondary sources about the Great Molasses Flood and address the issue of whether there are points along the accident chain when alternate decisions can avoid a calamity. The formative performance tasks help students build knowledge and practice skills so they can answer the supporting questions. Students create an evidence-based argument to answer the compelling question.

Districts in the initiating phase of Academic and Career Planning are increasingly looking for a suggested calendar of ACP activities that can be used to fulfill the PI26 requirements for ACP. The following example calendar of activities can be a place to start. In the chart you’ll find:

* One 30-minute ACP time per month
* Activities which align to the Xello scope and sequence (which means alignment with high school suggested scope and sequence)
* Introduction to other online career research resources
* Some Xello interactive lessons which require students to save careers or interests as prerequisites--please follow the lessons in this order to have the correct prerequisites completed before the Xello lessons
* Struggling students may need additional time to complete activities, while accelerated students can choose from the optional activities for each grade if they complete the activity before class is done
* Optional activities which can be used for enrichment

What is involved in running those tests? Here is where we dive into the world of the Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS).

Students will learn about the qualities of a professional piece of correspondence and will be able to correct unprofessional correspondence to be appropriate for the workplace.

Through this lesson, students will learn how to create a thank you letter to send to an employer, post-interview. Example of a thank you letter and rubric included.

Students will collaborate in small groups to come up with a list of careers within the hospital setting. Lists will be shared out as a class, with each student then choosing one job with which to create a Google slide presentation.
