The purpose of this activity is to show students that Career Matchmaker provides individualized feedback for their career choices based on how they answer a set of questions. Uses Career Cruising (Xello).

Once you have completed your career match assessment online on Xello, you will be selecting one career of your choice from your highest career match that you would like to research further.  This career can be one that interests you as a possible career choice or it could simply be a career that you have never heard of before or know little about. In your brochure you will need to provide the following information; a general overview of the career, education/training required for this specific job, the salary amount (yearly or hourly), work responsibilities/duties, and a few examples of related jobs.  You should also include pictures and any other interesting information about the career in your brochure. To create your brochure you will use Microsoft Publisher, click on the brochure and select the format you like.  They will be printed in black and white so when choosing a color scheme, select light colors.This assignment is worth 50 points and will be the main artifact in your career portfolio.  Make it look professional but be creative.

This classroom activity introduces students to the 16 career clusters, and provides them an opportunity to find two careers to match each career cluster in a group activity.

Students will be able to research careers and learn more about the careers that interest them.

Often when a person has their first job, it is an entry-level position which require minimal experience and education/training. As a person spends time in that position, they may be able to move up to another position based upon their new experience/education/training levels. We call this a “career pathway.” This 7th grade Discovering Learning Pathways lesson leads students through an exploration of the pathway for a student-chosen career.

In this interactive lesson, you will learn about job projections and outlook, factors that impact job demand, such as changes in technology, demographics, business practices or production methods, consumer preferences, and workplace restructuring, and explore the importance of reviewing your career plan based upon the demand for the career that interests you!

This lesson plan is designed to enhance understanding and awareness of essential soft skills and employability skills for success in the workplace.

Even when you are doing a job which you don’t intend to stay in forever, you’re building your employability skills. Employability skills are those skills which are transferable to other careers and which may help you to advance in your career. These could be academic skills like communication and basic math skills, or they may be personal characteristics such as critical thinking skills, promptness, and adaptability. In this 8th grade Job Skills lesson, students will investigate the skills and personal characteristics which are transferable from one occupation to another.

Reflect on their individual skills and interests and how they might shape their future
Choose a post-high school option(s) to explore in more detail

In this 45 minute lesson, students will be able to:

Explain the commitment they are agreeing to when enlisting in the military
Understand the requirements they need to meet to enlist in the five branches of the military
Identify the various steps needed to enlist in the military, including taking the ASVAB exam and going to a MEPS
Understand the benefits of joining an ROTC program

In this 45 minute lesson, students will be able to:

Explain what types of career opportunities are available to them through the military and how they compare to civilian occupations
Interpret different components of a Leave and Earnings Statement (LES)
Identify the challenges of transitioning from a military career to a civilian career and steps they can take to make the process easier

In this 45 Minute lesson, students will be able to:

Differentiate between a bachelor degree and an associate degree
Understand the two types of associate degrees
Explore possible career paths that require associate degrees

In this 45 minute lesson, students will be able to:

Identify the benefits of attending a trade school
Discover the variety of career options as a result of graduating from a trade school
Explore the necessary steps of finding the right trade school program for them

In this 45 minute lesson, students will be able to:

Identify the benefits of pursuing on-the-job training experiences, specifically apprenticeships and internships
Explain the differences between apprenticeships and internships
Conduct research to find various apprenticeship and internship opportunities

Students will identify jobs known as “blue-collar” and identify opportunities, advantages of these jobs, and explore labor market data.  Students will identify categories of jobs known as “blue-collar”.  Students will assess the opportunities and advantages of these types of careers.  Students will investigate labor market information and demand for occupations.
