This course is the second part of a two part course covering the merger and acquisition process. Part 2 describes valuation concepts, financial analysis, the valuation process, post merger integration, and anti-takeover defenses. The purpose of the course is to provide the user with a solid understanding of how the merger and acquisition process works. Course Level: Advanced - This course deals with advanced topics in finance and the user should have a solid understanding of cost of capital, forecasting, and value-based management prior to taking this course. Negotiation and Conflict Management presents negotiation theory -- strategies and styles -- within an employment context. 15.667 meets only eleven times, with a different topic each week, which is why students should commit to attending all classes. In addition to the theory and exercises presented in class, students practice negotiating with role-playing simulations that cover a range of topics. Students also learn how to negotiate in difficult situations, which include abrasiveness, racism, sexism, whistle-blowing, and emergencies. The course covers conflict management as a first party and as a third party: third-party skills include helping others deal directly with their conflicts, mediation, investigation, arbitration, and helping the system change as a result of a dispute.

I developed a new Organizational Behavior course that will be used in the Business Management program at Western Technical College. This is the first core course in the program and it is designed to introduce students to human behaviors in the workplace. This course provides an overview of organizational behavior with readings, graphics, and videos all located in one convenient place. Additionally, effective communication is emphasized and students are encouraged to cultivate a growth mindset. By incorporating business communication concepts, students can explore the correlation between communication and workplace behaviors. Additionally, by periodically addressing a growth mindset throughout the course, students are encouraged to reflect on their attitudes and behaviors in both college and the workplace.

Opportunity for group study by graduate students on current topics related to management not otherwise included in curriculum. Practical Leadership is an interactive seminar where students receive repeated coaching and real-time feedback on their own leadership capabilities from their peers and the instructor. The course is structured around a set of readings. However, the key component is each student's own self-assessment. These self-assessments are done by the students in the first week of the semester. The areas for improvement that the students identify are then targeted in the weekly role plays that are customized for each student in the class. The goal of the class is for each student to increase his or her own leadership abilities through an ongoing cycle of practice, feedback and reflection.

This project has great potential to eliminate unnecessary costs and time to students by offering them an overview of business in general, as well as an overview of what’s to come in the program. Students will learn the basics while preparing to go more in depth as the program progresses.

Doctoral student seminar covering current topics related to operations research not otherwise included in the curriculum. In keeping with the tradition of the last twenty-some years, the Readings in Optimization seminar will focus on an advanced topic of interest to a portion of the MIT optimization community: randomized methods for deterministic optimization. In contrast to conventional optimization algorithms whose iterates are computed and analyzed deterministically, randomized methods rely on stochastic processes and random number/vector generation as part of the algorithm and/or its analysis. In the seminar, we will study some very recent papers on this topic, many by MIT faculty, as well as some older papers from the existing literature that are only now receiving attention.
