In this lesson, students will reinforce the importance of giving clear instructions to a partner for a desired outcome or result, similar to what is needed in a real world work environment, when instructions or notes need to be communicated in person to or left in written form for a co-worker who may be on a different shift and need to complete a project. In the real world, if instructions are not clear, machines or entire assembly lines may be down for a period of time which causes the company to lose money.
This lesson will be used in conjunction with Code.org's Course D (2019) curriculum (https://studio.code.org/s/coursed-2019) after the initial lesson called Graph Paper Programming - https://curriculum.code.org/csf-19/coursed/1/. In this lesson, students will use what they just learned about programming, sequencing, and algorithms (set of instructions) and take it a step further by communicating instructions for navigating through a series of steps to a partner who either has their eyes closed (or is wearing a blindfold) from a starting to finishing point, while picking up small blocks (or something similar) along the way.

Dual enrollment includes a variety of programs through which high school students are enrolled simultaneously in both high school and college to earn both high school and college credit. Such programs make college more affordable for families and introduce students to higher level coursework before they immerse themselves in college life. Students will understand the importance of sending a professional email to an employer, teacher, etc. Students will be able to prepare an effective and professional email.

The Professional Interview allows a student to explore a specific career of interest by talking to a professional about their work duties, place of employment, and career path. This project is ideal for the situation where a job shadow is not possible.  This project includes two attachments in the resource library which cover the guidelines and requirements of this project. Waunakee Community High School students take a course called Career Workshop at the sophomore level.  They are required to choose two enhancement projects from a list of options.  Students have access to shared Google Docs related to these projects.  The Job Shadow is one of these options.  Other options that may be found under WISELearn Resources include an Infographic, Web Portfolio, Career Presentation, Career Cruising Video Project, and Job Shadow.

Having proper interview etiquette will give students an opportunity to excel during the interview process and provide the confidence required to succeed during an interview.

This project is useful for math classes that have an opportunity to allow students to explore deeper into math related careers.

Students will be shown ores, steel billets, forged steel, and finished steel parts. Students will learn about how raw materials are mined and then transported from factory to factory in order to be turned into the products that are all around us.
