In this activity, you will identify how time management is an important skill for one saved career. Then add and rate this skill and six time management strategies within your profile.

This series of videos is appropriate for K-5 students. Students are asked to determine the different types of bullying and determine appropriate responses by those involved in the situation. Younger students may need help with the reading portions.

-Make informed decisions about how much student loan debt to take on, based on college costs and projected salary upon graduation
-Explain the difference between private and Federal loans, and the various types of Federal loans, and when to use each
-Select the best repayment option to minimize total amount paid while also keeping monthly payments reasonable within a budget
-Learn strategies for avoiding default, including whether consolidation is an appropriate option

The formation of a personal career identify or work personality is the key to helping students understand the type of careers that they will find fulfilling. The key is guiding the students through assessments where thematic, or repeating characteristics, are identified with the help of teachers, counselor, or other adults. This collection of lessons has been used successfully with "at-risk" youth many times. The student identifies career clusters of interests then correlates their work personality/career identity to the pathway within career clusters of interest. This strategy helps organize the world of careers into a more manageable one so the student can conceptualize the selection of careers using a simple guided process. There are written assessments for use and links to online. Educators may want to utilize tools that are available to them. Teachers working with homeless and "at-risk" youth have indicated that the hard copy assessments are necessary to their work. The process will remain the same. It is important that the students see the results of the assessment and descriptions in one place to assist with the identification of reoccuring themes.

As a junior and/or senior, you may have a unique opportunity to participate in a program which allows you to spend part of your day or week in on-the-job training called Youth Apprenticeship. Youth Apprenticeship (YA) integrates school-based and work-based learning to instruct students in employability and occupational skills defined by Wisconsin industries. In this lesson, you will investigate the Youth Apprenticeship program and connect with your local Youth Apprenticeship coordinator if you are interested.

Today, we’ll be taking all of that information and putting it together into a resume. You’ve used Xello matchmaker to gain some insight into careers which align with your interests. You continued by taking the Personality Assessment to align your career choices to your personality traits. Now you’ll finish the mission by completing the last questions in the Matchmaker Mission Complete, which will help refine your career choices.

The Internet has hundreds of places where you can find career information. We’ve explored a few new places besides Xello over the years. Another great resource is videos! If you aren’t familiar with TedTalks, they are short informational speeches about a particular topic. Today you’ll have the choice of a TedTalk to watch on a career-related topic and then you’ll reflect on what you learned from the talk.

Back in 8th Grade, you first investigated your post-secondary options. You learned about the 16 Career Clusters and thought about those most of interest to you. To help you zero in on the clusters which interest you the most, we’re going to use the Career Cluster Quiz found on the Waukesha County Technical College website.

Today, you will consider the values which will help you to choose the best career fit for you. You have two options for finding this information.

What is labor market information? Why is it important when thinking about what types of careers you might want to do in your future? Knowing the labor market in your area can help you save time and money by focusing your educational and employment choices to those jobs which actually have openings or are growth opportunities. Today we’ll be investigating some of the Labor Market Information resources provided by the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction (DPI) to help you conduct labor market research on careers of interest.

Employers often talk about the skills they need in an employee. You may have heard them referred to as soft skills or employability skills or transferable skills. We like to them of them as essential skills, because they are skills that are essential to just about any career. These might include communication skills or basic measurement skills or teamwork. In this Xello lesson, you’ll have the opportunity to think about the skills which are essential to careers today.

In this lesson, you will learn how to conduct a job search at a particular company and in a particular region: local, state or national.You are able to conduct this job search in one of two ways.  If you are entering the workforce directly after high school graduation, you will conduct this job search based on your current reality and experience.  If you plan to attend a technical college or four-year college, you will conduct this job search as if you have earned your certificate and/or degree following college graduation.
