This module of the course focuses on organizing curricular documentation and student learning evidence into a reflective exhibition or narrative that explains student learning and what inclusive educational practice supported that learning. During the module you will use a scoring rubric to help analyze some sample cases and give constructive feedback to improve the educative value of the cases or exhibitions for other educators.

In this investigation the students will look at the fossils they made previously. They will look at the details of the fossil with a hand lens and come up with conclusions about the fossils. They will record what they see and draw conclusions about the environment of the fossil.

The activities in this lesson will help students compare and understand the three types of fossils: preserved organisms, mineral replacement fossils, and impression fossils.

Students will use their knowledge about fossils to arrange fossil pictures in sequence from oldest to youngest.

Students will act as paleontologists and attempt to figure out the environment where various fossils would have existed.

In this investigation students will be looking at different items to see if they can recognize fossils. This will be an introduction to the different fossils they will be studying later.

This Check Your Readiness Rubric is used in conjunction with the Illustrative Mathematics Curriculum. It breaks down each question by identifying the Essential Standard associated and then defining what an Advanced, Proficient, Basic or Below Basic student response would entail. This rubric can then be utilized to determine levels of prerequisite skills when beginning a new unit and allow for placement of interventions.

Open Educational Resources (OER) offer opportunities for increasing equity and access to high-quality K–12 education. Many state education agencies now have offices devoted to identifying and using OERs and other digital resources in their states. To help states, districts, teachers, and other users determine the degree of alignment of OERs to the Common Core State Standards, and to determine aspects of quality of OERs, Achieve has developed eight rubrics in collaboration with leaders from the OER community.

Project Description: In this project, students will examine the economic benefits of several different energy industries, including petroleum, natural gas, electricity, coal, nuclear power, solar power, etc. Each team will conduct thorough research on these forms of energy and then create a website, digital poster, or other deliverable that details the economic advantages and disadvantages of each energy type. Individually, each student will write a short position paper explaining which energy industry s/he believes would be the best fit economically for their state—generating benefits such as plentiful jobs, considerable capital investment, and significant government revenue. In this activity students will investigate four different ways fossils are made in sedimentary rock: impression, trace, preserved, and mineral replacement (petrification) fossils.
