This brief video from the New North region gives an overview of the Advanced Manufacturing Pathway and the process students can use to access the pathway and its components.

Each student creates a poster exhibiting their career choices from kindergarten through high school or their adult life depending on where they are in their career planning.  The students identify the career clusters and pathways that best fit their career choices across their timeline or pathway.  The students become familiar with the career clusters and pathways.  They also learn about new career opportunities that fall under their chosen cluster or pathway.  The students share their poster with the class, which leads to a discussion of how our career choices from 4th grade on don't really change career cluster, but they do change pathways within the cluster.  The students compare their career pathway poster with their "Me" poster (lesson available in Wise Learn, search Me Poster) they made previously to determine the characteristics they have or skills they may need to develop for their future career.

Career Poster must include:
Career Cluster Title
Pathways
Hobbies
A QR code that will take the viewer to a video based on their career cluster
A description of their cluster
A handmade mascot or object that relates to their career cluster

-Explain the benefits of joining a professional organization and identify professional organizations that could help you grow in your career
-Effectively ask for a raise
-Create a plan that shows the career path you can take to get to your dream job

Often when a person has their first job, it is an entry-level position which require minimal experience and education/training. As a person spends time in that position, they may be able to move up to another position based upon their new experience/education/training levels. We call this a “career pathway.” This 7th grade Discovering Learning Pathways lesson leads students through an exploration of the pathway for a student-chosen career.
