*This numberless application problem is the same application problem used the engage lesson: Grade 1, Module 2, Lesson 2 *Numberless word problems are used to support students in solving word problems. They allow students to discover for themselves the structure of the problems they're solving. In doing so, they will be able to successfully find the operation or operations they need to use to determine the solution. *Numberless word problems help students to develop number sense, making sense of word problems, and encourage precise mathematical vocabulary. *Based on the work of Brian Bushart. *Created using ideas from wi math institute training. Google Slides presentation created as an adaption of WiseLearn resource by Sarah Martinsen and Kelly Shaefer. *These slides could be inserted into the free Engage New York lesson google slides from embarc.online.

This instructional guide (PDF) is for the mobile app Pick-a-Path (both iOS and Android platforms). The guide provides professional development by discussing the math in each level of the game, giving suggestions for classroom use, and recommending related resources from Illuminations. The Pick-a-Path app is cataloged separately and listed as a related resource.

In this lesson plan, students are asked to use measurement skills to perform an experiment. The data from the experiment is then recorded in a table and analyzed to determine the median and range. The lesson plan includes a PDF document for data collection and analysis, as well as extension suggestions for higher level thinkers.

This lesson unit is intended to help teachers assess how well students are able to: use the area of right triangles to deduce the areas of other shapes; use dissection methods for finding areas; organize an investigation systematically and collect data; deduce a generalizable method for finding lengths and areas (The Pythagorean Theorem.)
This lesson unit is intended to help teachers assess how well students …
This lesson unit is intended to help teachers assess how well students are able to: translate between decimal and fraction notation, particularly when the decimals are repeating; create and solve simple linear equations to find the fractional equivalent of a repeating decimal; and understand the effect of multiplying a decimal by a power of 10.

In this 5-lesson multi-media unit, students will explore various real-world applications of different forms of measurement, including time and distance. They will make estimations and calculations. Throughout the unit, students will be using online resources to familiarize themselves with coral reefs, the nation of Belize, and to plan a pretend scuba diving trip. Activity sheets (pdf), links to online resources, assessment options and other commentary are provided.

This Java applet provides opportunities for creative problem solving while encouraging young students to estimate length and angle measure. Using the Turtle Pond Applet, students enter a sequence of commands to help the turtle get to the pond. Children can write their own solutions using LOGO commands and input them into the computer. The turtle will then move and leave a trail or path according to the instructions given. (N.B. the applet is an upgrade of one that supported the Lesson "Get the Turtle to the Pond," cataloged separately.)

This lesson from Illuminations helps students to begin to develop an understanding of area by using a Java applet on the computer. Learners use 12" × 12" paper squares to measure the area of a door and determine whether area increases or decreases as the length or width of their door changes. The lesson includes discussion questions, extensions, and other teacher support. It is supported by the applet IGD: Areas in Geometry (cataloged separately).
