This will be a year-long lesson that is graded quarterly. Students will follow the 5S Lean workforce model daily when working in the shop areas. 5S stands for Sort, Set in Order, Shine, Standardize, Sustain, and sometimes a 6th S stands for Safety. This model will help students with daily reminders on how we should maintain the shop and perform in the shop.

Safety in the Woodshop

Woodworking can be a safe and enjoyable trade if you follow some very basic woodworking safety rules. All of the rules are common-sense ideas, but failure to follow these rules will greatly increase the chance of injury. The wood shop is not the place to be in a hurry or have an "it won't happen to me" attitude. Follow the 10 rules and your woodworking experiences will be safer and enjoyable.

This unit will guide students from basic sheet metal layout and forming through applications and utilization of CNC plasma cutting to develop a better understanding of how this technology is used in industry.  Prior to this unit, students would have an understanding of measurement and the use of the CNC plasma software, interface, and operation through a previous sign making activity.  Students would already have been taught welding (SMAW & GMAW) safety and this unit runs concurrently with welding activities to allow larger classes more access to the welding booths.
