Business Concepts: Exploring Careers in Business
Unrestricted Use

Rating
0.0 stars

Two instructors, Jenny Parker and Mabel Gehrett, developed the new Business Concepts course to be used in the Business Division at Western Technical College in La Crosse, Wisconsin. This foundational course is designed to help new students learn more about each individual program in business so they can fully commit to their selected program as they get started.

This course explores functions, components, activities, and career paths in key business areas including management, human resources, sales and marketing, and accounting. Business Concepts will expose these new students to the possibilities in business so they can make the best decision for themselves early on, and switch programs, if necessary, without adding time to their educational plan.

Employee Benefits (Gehrett)
Rating
0.0 stars

I developed the new Employee Benefits course to be used in the HR Management program at Western Technical College. This course is designed to explore the area of employee benefits with HR students including regulations, health insurance, retirement plans, time off programs, and other total rewards.

This project has great potential to eliminate unnecessary costs and time to students by offering them resources with readings, graphics, and videos all located in one convenient place. I was happy to incorporate opportunities for students to learn in different ways. Students will have an opportunity to learn about this area of human resources in appropriate detail and prepare for their future in an HR department.

Rating
0.0 stars

This is a detailed description of an assessment that can be used in a graduate level of study in the area of public school finance. This has been approved by NCATE as meeting all of the stipulated ELCC standards for which it is designed (1.1, 1.2, 1.3, 1.4, 1.5, 2.1, 2.2, 2.3, 2.4, 3.1, 3.2, 3.3, 4.1, 4.2, 4.3, 5.1, 5.2, 5.3.).

This course of study appropriate for this assessment is both skills and knowledge focused. The assessment measures the student’s ability to think critically and requires students to identify and analyze real school district data regarding revenue and expenditures, a formula for predicting needed staffing levels and a comprehensive listing of personnel data detailing all expenditures per employee. Finally, the assessment provides students the opportunity to role play experiences one might have during a district-wide administrator meeting and during a public school board meeting by presenting their recommendations via a formal presentation with their peers serving as school board members and the professor as the school district superintendent.
