This resource has 6 different graphic organizers that can be used to support English learners across different grade levels and content area subjects. Once you chose the most appropriate organizer for your content area I would suggest to have an EL use the same organizer for all units. Graphic organizers are essential learning tools for English learners.

This resource was created as part of the CESA #1 EL OER Project to help EL students (primarily levels 1 & 2) access social studies curriculum and text related to the 5 themes of geography. It can be used to introduce/pre-teach the 5 themes of geography vocabulary and/or as an assessment tool. Students could answer unit questions by pointing to a picture or they could complete the sort to show understanding of the 5 different themes.

ABC EXERCISE CARDS is a great resource for ELs and it can teach a new vocabulary ( such as verbs) in a fun and engaging way. This resource uses EL strategy : total physical response and the whole classroom could do this activity.

This resource was created as part of the CESA #1 EL OER Project to help elementary newcomer EL students learn vocabulary about places around school. Using the given template, teachers and students can create a personalized book showcasing different rooms/parts of the school and the teachers/ school staff that they interact with throughout the day. After creating the book, emergent readers will have a pattern book containing their name and picture clues to help them practice reading skills.
The Branches of the United States' Government worksheet and quiz was created for the CESA #1 EL OER Project. Students will be able to identify and describe the three branches of the United States' government after watching various videos. The graphic organizer will allow ELs to demonstrate their understanding of the three government branches by identifying, defining, and describing the three branches.
This resource, created as part of the CESA #1 EL OER Project, includes a list of character traits with accompanying visuals. Students (especially ELs) can use it to understand and generate new vocabulary to describe the characters they are reading about in their texts. The first two pages list opposing character traits next to each other, while the third page contains additional traits.
The Claim Evidence Graphic Organizer Writing Template was created for the CESA #1 EL OER Project. This writing template was created for EL students to use to aid in the writing process. It contains a detailed and easy to follow outline for students to input their knowledge. The organizer is color coded so that students will be able to navigate and organize their thoughts and textual evidence. There are also videos that are linked that ELs can watch to help them create each part in their argumentative essay. Teachers are able to apply this template to various argumentative essay assignments within different content areas.

Creating Language Objectives is crucial to the success of English language learners. These resources were created for the CESA#1 EL OER Project. Language objectives are paired with content objectives and are designed to promote students' language development. Language objectives focus on the specific language function associated with the content areas such as math, science or social studies. These objectives involve all four domains of language (speaking, listening, reading and writing) They are crucial because it outlines the type of language that students will need to learn and use in order to be successful with the academic task.
The Figurative Language Terms worksheet was created for the CESA #1 EL OER Project. Having a deep understanding of figurative language is essential while acquiring the English language. For many EL students, understanding the different terms is overwhelming. This worksheet provides students with the opportunity to watch videos and listen to songs to increase their background knowledge of various figurative language terms. Students will have exposure to: simile, metaphor, hyperbole, onomatopoeia, alliteration, idiom, allusion, and personification. They will also have an opportunity to demonstrate their understanding of the terms by writing definitions, drawing labeled pictures, and/or creating individual examples.

This lesson was created to support newcomer ELs ( level 1 and 2) and young ELs ( all levels) in speaking. First, students learn some background information regarding jobs They are introduced some new vocabulary. Students will have opportunity to share in a small group discussion their feedback about various jobs. At the end students have opportunity to talk about their favorite job and finally they get to compare/contrast two specific jobs. Similar concept can be used for different topics.
