Overview / Description:  

This lesson will give the student a basic understanding of how to identify materials and estimate woodworking material in a project.  Teacher or student can decide on a project to complete an estimate.

on how to present. Students may be asked to take notes during the presentation.

Summative assessment: Completion of quiz, (above), Completion of either a spreadsheet or a manual estimation sheet (above)

Wrap-Up:  

Instructor should stress importance of project estimation.  Everything that is manufactured has a cost estimate first.

Extension Activity (for intervention or enrichment):

  • Instructor may show a video on the importance of and method of cost estimating a project, such as this cost estimating video.
  • Instructor may invite an estimator from a local business in to discuss the importance and method of cost estimating for that business.
