Dungeons & Dragons Introductory Adventure @ Play Make Learn 2024!

by Chris Baker 5 months, 1 week ago

Hello everyone!

For those of you who have librarians in your networks attending Play Make Learn 2024 (or if you're attending yourself!), I wanted to highlight an outstanding networking and learning opportunity to participate in. On Friday, July 19th at ~3:30 pm (immediately after the conference outro)some fantastic librarians (who also happen to be Dungeons & Dragons experts!) are going to be offering a creative, introductory "one-shot" D&D adventure that conference attendees can participate in. These are the same experts that offered the experience at WLA 2022, and Play Make Learn 2023! They know their stuff.

It's totally free to register – and it would be a GREAT chance for any librarians interested in learning a bit more about D&D to take advantage of. We have 36 slots available for registration; whether you're new to D&D or are a seasoned veteran – all are welcome! GET YOUR SLOT TODAY!

Note: If you or any librarians you're aware of are planning to register for PML 2024, it should happen ASAPwe are definitely going to sell out the conference this year!

  • Here is a look at the conference schedule; we have STELLAR keynotes, sessions, workshops, and arcade experiences planned this year.

  • There's still time to register for our innovative pre-conference sessions on July 17th!

  • We also have other conference activities being offered; Play Make Learn 2024 is jam-packed with cool stuff to learn and do!

Let me know if you have any questions... I'm so pumped to see some of you - and learn along side you - at Play Make Learn 2024. 🙂

I also wanted to highlight an awsome programming/activity resource uploaded to our WISELearn Cohort by our very own Laura Turpin: "A Firehose of Star Wars-related Games & Activities"

  • This resource offers an abundance of easy-to-integrate and compelling Star Wars-based programming ideas -- from crafts, to quick one-off experiences, to trivia, quizzes, and games, and so much more. THANK YOU, Laura; everyone planning their next Star Wars watch party or program should check this out!

Happy Friday!

Aww! ::blush:: Since Free Comic Book Day this year fell on May the 4th, my FCBD event was a Star Wars party. And since I was compiling resources to comb through for ideas, I figured I'd share my research. :-) (Oh, and FCBD offers a library affiliate program, if there's no comic shop in your area for you to partner with.)

I'm so excited to see everyone! I'll be there both days and presenting on Friday. I'm an introvert, so I'll probably be out of gas after the conference, but if you *need* a 36th person... :D

If you're going to the conference, please sound off! It might be cool to organize a little meetup to put faces to names (plus it's nice to have someone to eat lunch with).

Oooh I love this idea, Hannah; I'll send something out on the Games-Learning-Libraries email list, too, but... yeah! We could organize a meetup and photo (maybe in the great hall).

Anyone else from this group going to Play Make Learn this year?

(P.S. -- you should definitely register for D&D, Hannah! I won't be joining this year since my parents will be visiting in town but I did it last year and it was a BLAST!)

WOOHOO!! --

I'll keep an eye on this thread and see if anyone else is attending. If not, we three can snap a photo some time during the conference. I'll be easy to find so we can probably just meet up after I do some announcements at lunch or whatever. Stay tuned!

I know this is post-event, but I had to drop a shoutout for Simon who DM'd our session wonderfully at PML.  I had two work colleagues with me who had never played and they had a blast -- and walked away fans of D&D!

It was our first time at the event and we definitely want to come back!
