Introduction

Use mini whiteboards and have the students in pairs list all of the dairy products that they can think of. Have them share and if another group has the same they get erased off of the board until there are only unique answers. The students with the most creative and unique answers wins. 


Video

Then I show modern Marvels Ice Cream, This gives the students an understanding of the history, process, and jobs involved in making Ice Cream. Attached is the video worksheet and Key.

Activity

After the video discuss the different flavors and the creation of the different flavors. Talk about the packaging and the marketing of the ice cream. Then the students are assigned to create their own flavor of Ice Cream. The worksheet is attached.  Typically the students present their flavors to the class and they vote on the best flavors.

Lab

Then the students get to experience the process of making ice cream. Attached is the lab sheet.
