Overview / Description:
The purpose of this activity is to show students that Career Matchmaker results can help them explore careers they may not have considered before.
Learning goals/objectives:
Objectives 1: Students will participate in a classroom discussion that focuses on how career assessments should be seen as tools for finding suitable careers, rather than as “tests” that supply the final word on students’ futures.
Objectives 2: Students will engage in answering 116 Career Matchmaker questions to connect their personal interests of what they enjoy doing as well as their strengths/talents to help identify possible career options.

Students will sign into their Xello-Career Cruising Account | I | 3 Min |
Have students click on My Plan, and then click on Career Matchmaker. | I | 1 Min |
Have students select their most recent Career Matchmaker Assessment and get to their career results. Have students double check that they have answered all 116 questions. | I | 3-10 Min |
Have students select 2 careers to explore and fill out the worksheet with from their list of results. Career 1 should be their favorite result and Career 2 can be any career from the list. Make sure to have them save both careers to their plan! | I | 20-30 Min |
Journal Activity: When students are done exploring 2 careers have them make a Journal entry in their plan. (Students can find the “Journal” section underneath the “My Plan” button located under your name at the top of the screen.) The title of the journal entry with “Today’s date.Career Matchmaker,” (ex. 2.19.19.Career Matchmaker) and answer these questions: - Out of the two careers you explored, which one would you choose? Why? - What do you think you’d have to do to get a job in that career? - Why did you identify the challenges you did? Why would they be hard for you? | I | 10- 20 Min |
Assessment: Identify that each student has at least 2 careers saved to their plan.
Wrap-Up:
Select 2-3 students to share something they liked about a career they didn't think they would enjoy.
Extension Activity:
Have students research different careers in the same career cluster as their favorite selection.
