As suggested by high school counselors in a number of districts, the Wisconsin ACP Lessons use not only the Xello platform, but also incorporate the use of a number of other career readiness platforms, especially at the high school level. Please share this list of websites and platforms with your district technology department to make sure that students have been given access to these websites before they try to use the Wisconsin ACP Lessons.

Districts in the initiating phase of Academic and Career Planning are increasingly looking for a suggested calendar of ACP activities that can be used to fulfill the PI26 requirements for ACP. The following example calendar of activities can be a place to start. In the chart you’ll find: * One 30-minute ACP time per month * Activities which align to the Xello scope and sequence (which means alignment with high school suggested scope and sequence) * Introduction to other online career research resources * Some Xello interactive lessons which require students to save careers or interests as prerequisites--please follow the lessons in this order to have the correct prerequisites completed before the Xello lessons * Struggling students may need additional time to complete activities, while accelerated students can choose from the optional activities for each grade if they complete the activity before class is done * Optional activities which can be used for enrichment

However, it is also important to find other opportunities to network, and this can take place through your involvement in extracurricular or community activities, by volunteering in your community, or simply through the people that you know!

In preparation for opportunities to network and interview for jobs, it is important to prepare a brief summary of yourself relevant to your experiences, interests, and short and long term career goals.  This summary is often referred to as an “elevator pitch.”  Creating an elevator pitch is useful for every post secondary plan and can be used when talking with employers and military recruiters, and it can a framework for a more detailed personal statement often used on a college or scholarship application!
