Content Standards:
SS.Hist1.a.i Use evidence to draw conclusions about probable causes of historical events, issues, and problems.
M.3.MD.A.2 Measure and estimate liquid volumes and masses of objects using standard units of grams (g), kilograms (kg), and liters (l), excluding compound units such as cm3 and finding the geometric volume of a container. Add, subtract, multiply, or divide to solve one-step word problems involving masses or volumes that are given in the same units, e.g., by using drawings (such as a beaker with a measurement scale) to represent the problem.

Indian Fry Bread History (Fry Bread recipe in this link as well)
mixing bowls
measuring cups
flour
baking powder
salt
water
vegetable oil
skillet/frying pan
Learning Activities:
Read Aloud- Fry Bread A Native American Family Story by Kevin Noble Maillard
Prior knowledge and lecture on the history of Fry Bread and the links to diabetes (use the link in Materials to guide this). Talk about ways you ate fry bread in the past and anyone you know who can make it. Discuss what caused fry bread to come into existence.
Mix and prepare fry bread. Multiply the recipe to practice adding measurments.
End the lesson with a writing assignment. "Tell me about a time you ate fry bread. Where were you when you were eating it? Who made it? What is your favorite way to eat it?"
