The teacher will go over what a powwow is with the students, explaining that there are typically two different kinds of powwows. One kind is a traditional powwow where people gather and dance. The other is a contest powwow in which people gather and dance, but it is a contest on who is the best dancer in any given category. Additionally, there are drum contests during the contest powwow as well as dance contests.
