Product Line and Life Cycle Project

You are to research the product mix of a company. You are to select a company of your choice but you must check with your teacher for approval of the company and product line. You want to look at companies that have both product depth and width. You are to create the following items:

  1. Company
  1. Research company and write with great detail the company history and background.
  2. How and when did the company produce the product types?
  3. The product lines of the company. What products does the company produce? Who is the target market for these products?

Example: PepsiCo acquired Frito Lay in 1965 and thus got into the snack food business

  1. Select 10 items from your companies’ product line and explain where you feel it is on the product life cycle.  Explain your rationale for the placement.
  2. Create a product life cycle collage chart of each of your items and where they are located. Use pictures of each item on the chart.

Grading Rubric

  1. Company name and history. The date it started and with what products.

2. Describe the product line. Example: Apple is an electronic company producing various electronic products: Computers and electronic hand devices.  And continue providing details within the line.

3. What do they produce? Target market (5 characteristics). Example: Apple produces Mac computers, iPads and iPhones and their target market consist of individual of various ages but mostly appeal to a younger generation and either gender. The income level can range but mostly a mid to higher income level. Most individual who purchase these items enjoy listening to music or individuals who work on a computer.

4. Select 10 items from the product line and it’s placement on the Product Life Cycle and explain why you feel it is at that stage of the Product Life Cycle. See attached chart for guidance.
