Students evaluate data and models to decide how matter and energy was or was not conserved. For questions 2 and 3 models were placed at lab stations. These models could be ball and stick, drawn or other forms. #2 shows students a simple reaction (such as the combustion of methane) that is either balanced or unbalance. #3 shows students a made up reaction where atoms appear in the products that were not present in the reactants.
