In this activity/lab, students will graph data and make sense of that data by taking the curve fit and linearize that data by using calculated columns. Students have a hard time understanding what a curve fit means, as they have a hard time explaining what the curve fit means. By linearizing the data, students are able to make sense of the data. Students will be guided through how to linearize the data and they will fill out a form that they will be able to use on an assessment.



Students are going to linearize data to fully understand what the data shows by creating a y=mx + b equation, something that they are very familiar with already. Students will be able to become self-reliant while using graphing software and be able to recognize what mathematical function is represented by the look of the graph. 


Amount of time required to teach students how to use the software.


Spend time demonstrating how to input data, how to create calculated columns, how to create best-fit lines, etc. to complete activity using graphing software. Make sure to let students struggle with linearizing so they can learn from their failures
