In this activity, polystyrene spheres and strong magnets are used to represent the Sun and Earth and their distinct magnetic fields. Students will construct and use a "magnetic field detector" out of a paperclip and pencil to predict where the magnetic fields are. Students will also use "field bits" made from used staples to form loops so they can trace the invisible magnetic fields of the Sun and Earth.
