With the uncertainty of face-to-face contact due to COVID-19 this year, CESA 8 has developed Virtual Job Spotlights, in conjunction with NWTC, CESA 7, Ahnapee YA Consortium, UWGB and the NEW Manufacturing Alliance, Virtual Job Spotlights provide students in Northeast Wisconsin with virtual connections to employers each week through Zoom. These job shadowing opportunities will allow students, staff, and parents to hear from a variety of industry professionals and post-secondary educators discussing their education and career pathways.

Lesson Description:  Overview: When talking to numerous departments at Reinhart Foodservice, all department heads emphasized the need for communication between departments and wanting to hire employees who possess excellent soft skills. For this unit, students will complete a job experience, job shadow, or community service experience where they will observe communication at the workplace as well as note examples of soft skills in the workplace. Students will also explain how they used communication skills and soft skills. Districts in the initiating phase of Academic and Career Planning are increasingly looking for a suggested calendar of ACP activities that can be used to fulfill the PI26 requirements for ACP. The following example calendar of activities can be a place to start. In the chart you’ll find:

* One 30-minute ACP time per month
* Activities which align to the Xello scope and sequence (which means alignment with high school suggested scope and sequence)
* Introduction to other online career research resources
* Some Xello interactive lessons which require students to save careers or interests as prerequisites--please follow the lessons in this order to have the correct prerequisites completed before the Xello lessons
* Struggling students may need additional time to complete activities, while accelerated students can choose from the optional activities for each grade if they complete the activity before class is done
* Optional activities which can be used for enrichment
